A love affair with life… and the occasional interest

Real Madrid Wins Copa Del Rey… and Sergio Ramos drops it under a bus!

Ronaldo, Pepe, and Marcelo with Copa del Rey

Finally, after 2 years and 5 continuous defeats against Barcelona, Real Madrid tastes victory once again. With both sides deadlocked after 90 minutes and into extra time. Ronaldo leapt in the air to head in a wonderful cross from Angel Di Maria. The goal was exactly what was missing in Madrid and Ronaldo’s recent career. Ronaldo can rest easy now that he has silenced his critics. Criticts that stated how he often disappeared in big matches and how Messi always got the upper hand.

You would not believe how  crazy; correction, ecstatic I was after he scored… I was on edge the whole match and I felt my heart was gonna pump itself to death with nervous excitement.

Anyway, with the celebration underway there’s just one more video that is circulating like crazy. Apparently, just hours after Real Madrid wins the Cup, Sergio Ramos drops it from a bus and it get run over!

But, he will be forgiven, at least by me, for being the charming, sexy, player that he is….

Thorgan Hazard

I haven’t been posting anything recently about Yoann Gourcuff, Ronaldo, or any players as of lately. Most in part because Yoann is having real bad season with Lyon lately and though I still have faith in him and his past season at Bordeaux I am not as obsessive as before. But… while following the French ligue, I stubled upon Eden Hazard, a player similar in form and skill. Still, it is not him that this post is about but it is his sexy young-boy-next-door brother that I have become infatuated with. Thorgan Hazard has the exact looks (dark blonde and green eyes), adorable face, and smile that I would want in a mate….

PS. Boys, wherever you are if you are reading this post and look like this call me! haha  =)

A boy can dream…

The Book Thief

Last night I finished what could be my favorite book if not for Andre Aciman’s heart wrenching “Call me by your name” .  The Book Thief stole  a couple of days of my life but I can’t  even say I would ever regret it. Narrated by Death, literally, it focuses on the life of  Liesel Memimger a young German girl who is adopted by a sympathetic family in the outskirts of Munich at the start of Hitler’s power. She develops a fascination with words and books at a time when they would be used to place fear and hate in the German nation. Before she can even read she picks up a book from the snow at the funeral of her younger brother who did not survive the trip to her new home. At first hesitant of her new family she learns to accept them.  Her loving accordion playing foster-father Hans teaches her how to read after discovering the stolen book and her stern mother Rosa keeps her grounded and well-behaved. Liesel, at first troubled by her scholastic shortcomings, inevitably begins a life of thievery not just for books but for the little bits of happiness that life stows away hidden during the war. Though the Book Thief’s comings and goings, the lives of other characters provide the backdrop for the moments that will impact in her life.

Han’s a WWI veteran owes his life to a Jew and makes a promise. A promise that reaches fruition when Max, the young Jewish son of Han’s savior arrives at his door asking them to risk all.

Max a young fist-fighter living freely, finds himself in peril after the German persecution.  Regrettably, he leaves his family and goes into hiding and develops a bond with the” Book Thief” that keeps him through the darkest days.

Rudy, a blond hair blue-eyed boy who idolizes the olympic track winner Jesse James, befriends Liesel but not for free. At first rivals at the local Himmel Street soccer games he goes out of his way to outdo her. He develops a strong bond with Liesel and never fails to find ways to ask her for a kiss. His carefree disposition, wholeheartedness,  and the place he holds as Liesel’s accomplice in crime inevitably wins me over and he is my favorite character in the book.

Death , inevitably, also plays a role. What we might view as a hateful and unregretful is the opposite. Death, it seems, is tired and weary of all the despair and disaster. He views each death in colors and keeps himself withdrawn so as to abstain from the pain heartbreak of those left behind, for he knows if he does he will not be able to cope. Death makes the ultimate exception with Liesel. Through his multiple encounters with the Book Thief, Death finds himself not only following her life but succumbing to the regret and loss of those left behind.

A Single Man…

Recently I was able to finally watch Tom Ford’s first venture into the film industry. The former creative designer for Gucci and YSL created a masterpiece of a movie which is based on a novel by writer Christopher Isherwood. Colin Firth stars as George Falconer, a depressed college professor who has lost his lover of 16 years and feels like life has lost its meaning. With the intent taking his life at the end of the day, Falconer finds himself looking at each minute of life with new found perspective. Throughout the movie, flashbacks of his lover Jim (Matthew Goode), intercede and provide a backdrop for happier times. Times and moments like one scene where the two are reading, George a book about  Metamorphosis and Jim, Breakfast at Ti fanny’s. Jim talks about how even if he died right then and there he would be happy because moments like these are the ones that actually matter. “What could be better that sharing this moment with you”, Jim’s words touch George and give us insight into the agony of his current life without Jim. Colin Firth’s performance is so exceptional in some instances that it really foreshadows his Oscar win this year. His reaction to the phone call that brings news of his partner’s death is one that truly embodies the feelings of human loss. His facial expressions during this scene evoked such sadness and genuine feeling that I couldn’t help but empathize with such tragic news. During his day at school, the calmness that George carries with him, leaves many he comes across puzzled and not sure what to think. One such person, a student named Kenny Potter played by (Nicholas Hoult). My favorite actor of the movie other than Colin, I found myself placing myself in his character. Kenny plays an unassuming student who truly find an interest in George and is perhaps the only character who really knows what is going on and goes out of his way to befriend his professor not only because he feels he needs a friend but because he thinks  George might have an insight that he needs in his own life. Throughout the movie there are flashes of color that come in related to Georges emotions. These scenes are so beautiful and give profound insight into the subtle things that light up Falconer’s mood. As he plans his final hours plays out ways to not leave a bloody mess for the maid he realizes that he has just one more event to take care of. His best friend Charley, played by  (Julianne Moore), had invited him for a dinner date. He follows through and the two reminisce about happier times, dance , and argue about how miserable they have become. My favorite scene shows the two characters dancing, drinking, and sharing memories that show the bond that they have created throughout their lives, even as George knows it is the last time he is seeing Charley. Julianne Moore give such a refreshing and very realistic performance  that I have never seen from her before. Eventually they part and George goes back to his house next door to realize that he can’t really go through it without a drink. So he runs to the nearby bar where a previous flashback shows the day he first met Jim, a night in which the two meet outside the same crowded bar both alone like some divine coincidence.  Eventually finding themselves rained on they go inside where a beautiful but inebriated woman asks Jim to buy her a drink to which Jim responds that he’s sorry but he is already taken. Back in the present he realizes he has been followed by none other than his student Kenny. The two share a drink while George, curious to why Kenny is going out of his way to talk and meet with him, finds himself venturing into a possibility that he might actually be interested in him. Eventually Kenny, after a conversation about living in the now and present Kenny proposes they go out for a swim as a test to George. George becomes uplifted by this proposal and the two run out an go skinny dipping in the sea. Back at George’s house Kenny takes care of a cut on George’s head casually brushing his head eventually spending the night to keep George from carrying out his plan. I finished the movie with a new outlook into life and how each moment, no matter how unimportant, can really become a measure of how beautiful life is and its multiple possibilities. We each yearn for someone to cure the human condition that is loneliness.

Francisco Lachowski’s Day in Milan

As my previous post, I am well on my way to getting those perfect male model pecs just like Francisco Lachowski. But to motivate me further I spent part of this morning browsing some of his videos and found one that is really interesting. Never knew how a day spent modeling  in Milan would be so busy but Francisco looked stunning all throughout showing a side of him few get to see. The sexy brazilian revelation has taken the modeling world by storm. Last year I posted a pic of Arthur Sales and him in the DSquared show not knowing how big he would get by this time around. Francisco Lachowski makes it all seem like a walk in the park and as the interview leaves off at the airport with a pending flight to Paris, I am overcome with envy and amazement! Keep it up Francisco you find new ways to inspire me…

Sean O’pry and Jeremy Young

Sean O'pry for CK

Always loved Sean O’pry. He is rated as the number 2 male model on models.com coming second to another fave Baptiste Giabiconi, but he come off less arrogant and without the sexy male model bitch face. Who am I kidding though? They all have that same look… Nevertheless, his ads for Calvin Klein are super exotic and he has a very charming personality to go along with it.

Let’s hope there’s more of this for this Summer’s CK.  Here are some nice vids…

Baptiste Giabiconi… New single!

Baptiste Giabiconi

Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, Baptiste Giabiconi, recently posed nude for Interview magazine and released a new single for showtime. His angelic face, full lips, and god like hair have defined him and placed him in a category that most female models would dream of having. All the while he personifies a look that is the male version of Gisele Bundchen or Adriana Lima. Gracing the covers of multiple magazines, he is always side by side with uncle Karl and is his premiere male model in all his fashion shows.
